From January 25, 2023 post.
Late last night, Crew B of your Gallup Fire Department was dispatched to the south side of town on a report of a dumpster fire. While crews were extinguishing that fire, the units were dispatched to another trash receptacle fire a few businesses down the road. Both fires were extinguished and no injuries were reported. The cause of these fires is under investigation.
Our Fire Investigators do investigate dumpster fires inside of the city. We do these investigations due to the fact that even though most of these fires are contained to the dumpsters they still cause property damage. Also, the potential for the fires spreading outside of the container is a constant. Dumpster fires also have the potential to injure Firefighters due to the unknown contents of the dumpster.
If you see anyone attempting to ignite a dumpster on fire, please call 911 immediately.
