Today, your Gallup Fire Department was at Gallup Head Start for fire prevention activities. With the younger kids we focus on them learning about how Firefighters are their friends and that we are community helpers. We do this by reading books to them and coloring alongside of them. And of course they got to meet Sparky and for some of the kids it’s their first time meeting him which is always fun to see the reactions of the kids seeing such a large dog.
We have developed a grade specific fire education program that we tested last year and are using on a full scale this year. For the younger kids like this we start out with basic fire safety information and each year we will add on more information.
If we haven’t come to your school yet, don’t worry as we will be visiting all of the schools in Gallup over the next several weeks.
