Yesterday, Crew C of your Gallup Fire Department was dispatched to I-40 mile marker 22 on a report of smoke coming from the area. While responding crews noted a column of black smoke coming from the south side of the interstate. Upon arrival crews had to make access to the area and found a homeless encampment on fire. Crews utilized a hoseline along with handtools to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.
