National Child Passenger Safety Certification Program

Over the past 4 days, several members of your Gallup Fire Department took the National Child Passenger Safety Certification Program that was held by SAFER New Mexico.

Many would ask why does a class on car seats take 4 days. Well, 3 out of 4 car seats are improperly installed and this course covers all of the knowledge including hands on skills that will be used to educate parents and caregivers on the proper selection, installation and use of their child safety seats.

There were also members of the Gallup Police Department and McKinley County Fire & EMS in the course.

These Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be used in events in our community. Your Gallup Fire Department already has a child safety seat distribution program in place, but with the Certified Technicians we will be able to host car seat fitting stations, and car seat inspection clinics.

We would like to congratulate the following members on becoming new Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians.

Deputy Chief Nathan Emerson

Fire Marshal Jon Pairett

Fire Inspector Arlita Pablo

Fire Inspector Andrew Laweka

Firefighter DuJuan Platero

Firefighter Paul Morris

We are already in the planning stages of holding community events. Your Gallup Fire Department truly believes in Community Risk Reduction and this is one more service we can provide to keep our community safe.
