Every day, we wake up, go to school or work, and take part in social events. But sometimes unexpected events can take place in these facilities such as a fire, or other emergency event. When these events happen out lives change and we realize how fragile life is. Today your Gallup Fire Department wanted to offer these safety tips for you.
Before you enter:
- Take a good look = does the building appear to be in good condition, is the main entrance open and is it readily available in the event of an emergency.
- Have a communication plan = have a plan on how you are going to communicate with family or friends if you get separated from them.
- Plan a meeting place = pick a place outside so that in the event of an emergency everyone in your party knows to meet there.
When you enter:
- Take a good look = locate exits immediately when you enter and make sure to look around because the closest exit may be behind you.
- Check for clear exit paths = make sure that the exit paths are clear and available for use
- Do you feel safe = does the building feel overcrowded, are there potential hazards such as candles burning or other sources of heat.
And always remember in the event of an emergency you should react immediately and once you have exited the building make sure you stay out.
