Last night, Crew A of your Gallup Fire Department was dispatched to a possible gas leak on the south side of town. Upon arrival crews could hear an active flowing gas line in the alleyway behind the homes. Crews quickly assessed the situation and found a gas meter had been struck but it was damaged below the shutoff valve that they could use to stop the flow of gas. Crews immediately deployed hoselines to protect the crews from New Mexico Gas Company and the homes in the area in case of a fire. Crews were on scene standing by for about 3 hours while the New Mexico Gas Company plugged the gas line.
