The temperatures in Gallup are going to be in the high 90's for the next week. Your Gallup Fire Department would like to remind you of these safety tips on heat related emergencies.
There are 2 types of heat related issues and they are heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Heat Exhaustion has common signs and symptoms like:
- Feeling faint or dizzy
- Excessive sweating
- Cool, pale, clammy skin
- Nausea or vomiting
- Rapid, weak pulse
- Muscle cramps
Heat Stroke has common signs and symptoms like:
- Throbbing headaches
- No sweating
- Red, hot dry skin
- Nausea or vomiting
- Rapid, bounding pulse
- Loss of consciousness
Remember to stay hydrated and if you are starting to feel symptoms of heat exhaustion get to a cooler location possibly with air conditioning. If you feel that you are having symptoms of a heat stroke or see someone with the signs call 911 immediately.
