On the 4th of July, your Gallup Fire Department responded to 1 brush fire that was caused by fireworks. The occupants of the home were celebrating the 4th with fireworks when a large bush on the property caught on fire. The occupants had their garden hose at the ready and had the fire contained prior to our arrival. Crews completed extinguishment and the only other damage noted was the mail box had melted due to the heat.
Even though we had the 1 fire that was caused by fireworks the occupants of that home were using legal fireworks and were following safety guidelines. It was a combination of the rain we received, the restrictions on certain fireworks, and you, our community in using fireworks safely that we did not have more fires.
