Your Gallup Fire Department believes in Community Risk Reduction which is more than fire prevention. Community Risk Reduction is about identifying risks in our community and finding solutions to lessen those risks or mitigate them so they are no longer a risk.
As part of our Community Risk Reduction program your Gallup Fire Department has now become the FIRST fire department in the State of New Mexico to become a Child Safety Seat Distribution Site.
The New Mexico Child Safety Seat Distribution Program (NMCSSDP) is funded by the New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division. This program helps provide car seats and education on how to properly use them to low-income New Mexico families at a low cost.
If you qualify for the program, a trained NMCSSDP staff member will provide the appropriate seat for your child. Parents and caregivers must be educated on the proper use of the seat, are provided educational resources, and are required to watch an educational video before being issued a seat. Families can receive 1 seat per child.
Our first Safety Seat was distributed on June 21st, 2022 to Diana for her Grandchildren by Fire Inspector Laweka who is certified by NMCSSDP to distribute and train parents or caregivers about best practice and proper car seat choice, and to safely and efficiently use the car seat.
If you are interested in this program please call your Gallup Fire Department at 505-722-4195 for more information or to schedule an appointment to receive training and a car seat.
