City of Gallup issued the following announcement on Nov. 25.
TO THE PEOPLE OF GALLUP:
On behalf of the Gallup City Council and the outstanding men and women serving you as employees of the City, I extend to you our heartfelt greetings and best wishes for the Thanksgiving holiday season. We are well aware how difficult these times are for all of our citizens, neighbors and visitors, as we struggle to hold the course in preventing the spread of the Coronavirus. Some of us are mourning the loss of loved ones to this terrible disease, and most of the rest of us are worried and anxious over what might happen if we catch the virus. Many of us find ourselves in a quarantine situation, either due to being infected by the virus or being contact-traced as someone who has been in close contact with an infected person.
Please know of our prayers and best wishes during these difficult times, which none of us have ever experienced before. In the meantime, let us all re-commit ourselves to doing whatever will keep ourselves, our loved ones, our neighbors and all community members and visitors safe and healthy. You’ve heard the advice over and over, but that advice has never been more timely and important:
- MASK – Wear a mask at any time you are around others in public.
- DISTANCE – Maintain a safe distance – at least 6 feet – from others when in public.
- NO BIG GROUPS – Avoid large gatherings – especially indoors and in close quarters
- STAY PUT – Stay in place, except for emergencies and essential errands.
- Even during this Thanksgiving time, when we usually celebrate together as families and friends, do what you can to stay home with only those who live in your household. All it takes is one “carrier” to start
an outbreak of infections!
- If you have to go out, or go to work, take every precaution and stay safe!
- Even during this Thanksgiving time, when we usually celebrate together as families and friends, do what you can to stay home with only those who live in your household. All it takes is one “carrier” to start
- WASH – Keep up the habit of washing your hands regularly.
- SANITIZE – Make sure incoming items and household surfaces are kept as sanitary as possible.
- Most infections come from airborne droplets from people’s breathing, coughing, etc. but some surfaces might have viral content – and if we touch our face, eyes, nose … there’s still a chance we’ll get infected.
- GET OUTDOORS – Being in the outdoors is usually safer than indoors, if you’re around other people. There’s more air movement and less chance for transmission of the virus. Get some exercise, get some sunshine and fresh air, keep your bodies active, and stay healthy.
- STAY STRONG & HEALTHY – Do whatever you can to eat good, nutritious food, stay well hydrated exercise whenever you can, get good sleep and rest, build up your immune system, and take recommended supplements, such as Vitamins C and D.
- STAY POSITIVE – We’ll get through this, and we’ll recover. But in the meantime, keep a positive attitude stay connected with others – even if it’s by phone or FaceTime or Zoom, be thoughtful of each other and hold strong to your faith in God and in one another. Worrying and complaining won’t change things, but a positive attitude can help us make the best of a tough situation!
- BE GRATEFUL – Especially at this Thanksgiving time, let’s remember everything we have to be thankfu for. The spirit of gratitude can get us “out of ourselves” and remind us we’re all in God’s hands. What we do with that grace … well, that’s up to each one of us!
We wish you only the best in health, in safety, and in love in the coming days and weeks.
In gratitude for your patience, for your good will and for taking care of yourselves and your loved ones,
Louis O. “Louie” Bonaguidi
Mayor
