University of New Mexico-Gallup Campus issued the following announcement on Oct. 15.
Over the course of this year, we have experienced the importance of leadership at the local and national levels—and have witnessed many within our Gallup community step up to help others throughout this pandemic. You may remember the article we posted in late May to our newsroom that highlighted efforts by local veterans to provide food and essential supplies to the area’s elderly and families in need. Or, more recently, the article we published on how our campus community continues to persist during this hybrid fall semester. These stories, I believe, include just a small sample of the many individuals from within our community—and beyond—who routinely display acts of courage, perseverance, and leadership at home and in their student and professional lives to ensure that we find our way out of these difficult times. Our faculty, students, and personnel, too, show up each day with a profound commitment to their goals and ambitions—and to our university mission. We are all truly participating in our destiny to safely and healthfully return to normal soon. As we lead the day-to-day campus operations of UNM-Gallup, we do so accountable to you—our faculty, staff, and students—and to other key constituencies within our community, including the UNM-Gallup Local Advisory Board. As you may know, our local board is comprised of elected citizens of McKinley County who are committed to the success of higher education.
Our current advisory board members include:
Ralph Richards,
Board Chair Teri Lynn Garcia,
Vice Chair Priscilla Smith,
Secretary Edwin Begay,
Member Rebecca “Becky” Apel,
Member The next public meeting of our local board is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20th, at 1:30 p.m. via Zoom— when will discuss several important items including our efforts to encourage the passage of General Obligation (GO) Bond C that’s on the ballot in this General Election. Dr. Dan Primozic, Dean of Instruction, will provide an update on our academic program prioritization efforts; and we’ll receive a business performance report from Robert Griego, our Director of Business Operations. New business on the agenda will include a discussion on marketing and communications strategies for UNM-Gallup.
