Grants Fire and Rescue issued the following announcement on Aug.28.
It is while we were conducting hose testing at Station 1 we noticed a young man walking by every morning around 7AM.
He was always polite and always dressed for work (he would wear his Taco Village uniform). We were working on Stations 1 lawn and landscaping yesterday afternoon and we saw the same young man walking home from his shift at work. Lt. Valencia called him over and asked if he had any other transportation for work. When he said no we were all impressed on his dedication on making sure he got to work when scheduled even if it meant him walking a long distance to and from. The Fire Department along with Councilman Garcia got together and pitched in money to help this young man out.
We were able to present him with a bike and lock to help him get to and from work. We hope this small gesture encourages him to keep striving for great things in his life.
