CITY OF GALLUP: Press Release - Update on the Closure of City Facilities

City of Gallup issued the following announcement on June 12.

On March 15th the Governor’s Office issued restrictions on mass gatherings and facilities that cater to gatherings, and the City of Gallup proceeded to close many facilities the next day in response to public health and safety. City staff have been proactively meeting and evaluating the next steps to reopening as many city services as possible.

In the interests of public health and safety, as well as the substantial impact the pandemic had on the City budget, the following facilities will remain closed through September 30, 2020:

  • El Morro Theatre and Events Center
  •  Aquatic Center
  • Cecil Garcia Fitness Center
  • Larry Brian Mitchell Recreation Center
  • Harold Runnels Athletic Complex
  • Rex Museum
All events or scheduled meetings within these facilities are effectively canceled, and staff will be working through the remainder of June to issue refunds or reschedule programs.

The following facilities will offer limited service to the public:

  • Octavia Fellin Public Library and Children’s Library
  • Gallup Senior Center
  • Red Rock Park
We will provide updates to services offered by the Octavia Fellin Public Library soon; the staff is actively working on safety measures to reopen for more services. The Gallup Senior Center will continue offering curb-side and meal delivery, but will not open for programs within the facility until permitted by the Governor’s Public Health Order. The Red Rock Park Campground will continue to operate at 50% and the trailheads will open. The Convention Center and Arena will remain closed.

We realize that the public has been looking forward to the return of many recreation based city services and we will update the public in September of 2020 about the reopening plans for those facilities.
