An outbreak of COVID-19 patients has led officials in Gallup to develop an alternative health care site to handle overflow patients.

The Miyamura High School Gym has been transformed into a medical center for residents of McKinley County and the Navajo Nation. It has 60-beds along with an HVAC system, washing stations and a station for nurses, KOAT News reported.

It will handle overflow from both Gallup Indian Medical Center and Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Care Services. FEMA is paying the majority of expenses with Gallup Indian Medical Center pitching in 25%. Staff from both hospitals will be responsible for manning the station along with volunteers.

The site was constructed within the span of two weeks. It is a welcome site for a county that has the second most cases of people testing positive for the coronavirus at 639 entering the last week of April, according to KOAT News. The site was developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and each room will be equipped with its own line of electricity and line of oxygen.
